The School of Vocal Arts is a place where you will learn to bring out the best of your singing and speaking voice. Whether you live close by in Southern New England or New York, or far away with only phone or web access, there is a program for you. The School of Vocal Arts was founded in March, 2002 by Miriam Goldsmith. It is located in Pawtucket, RI, 1 block from the Providence line on the East Side. The school was founded to be a comprehensive resource for all aspects of vocal expression to the community at large. This includes musicians, singers, (beginners to seasoned professionals) people in the theater arts, performing artists, and the general public. Children and adults are all welcome! We now have small group classes for kids 6-10 with Ellen. Children and teens 16 and younger wishing to begin private lessons will participate in a short interview process with Miriam or Nick. Many approaches to developing voices and the art of performance can be applied to both the singing and speaking voice. Other elements are unique to each. Click here for areas of focus.

Our Faculty

Baritone Nicholas R. Laroche has enjoyed a very active performing career in New England and abroad, singing everything from opera and art song to musical theater and jazz. As a teacher, Nick stresses the fun and enjoyment of performing, while working to supply a healthy and supportive technique for well-rounded singing and acting. He received his B.Mus in Vocal Performance from The University of New Hampshire and M.Mus in Solo Voice Performance from Canada’s prestigious McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. Beginning in the fall 2009, Nick will also be the Director of Music at Blessed Sacrament Church in Providence. He is excited to be joining The School of Vocal Arts faculty and will be offering private lessons as well as classes. Stay tuned for updates!
